FAQs

1) Where should we stay? We think this is an excellent guide for Places to Stay.

2) Where should we park for the event? The best place to park is on the beach along the dune side of the bollards between beach markers 1–20. Kite flying will take place on the ocean side of the bollards in the same marker range (1–20). See the map above.

3) What are the rules for driving/parking on the beach? You can drive on the beach. The speed limit is 15mph. If you plan to park, you will need a beach parking permit. More info here!

4) Where can I obtain a beach parking permit? For $12, you can purchase a permit at the Port Aransas Welcome Center, Lowe's Grocery store, and most of the convenience stores.

5) What if I use a wheelchair? You will be able to see the kites while taking a drive in a vehicle or golf cart. You can also check into reserving the City's beach-going wheelchair.

6) What if the weather is not good for kite flying the day of the kite festival? The event will not be canceled due to weather, but kite flying is always weather-dependent. Too little wind may keep kites on the ground, while too much wind can prevent flying for safety reasons. Cold weather may also mean fewer flyers and fewer kites in the sky. We always prioritize safety and will fly whenever conditions allow. Check our social media for weather related updates as we get closer to the festival date.

7) Are there Kite Festivals any other time of year in Port A? Yes! The Spring Kite Festival is always the Saturday of Mother's Day Weekend and the Fall Kite Festival is always the Saturday of Columbus/Indigenous People Day.
